Staff Profiles
Dr. Mara Ellison — Medical Director
Dr. Ellison joined Somnatek Sleep Health Center in 2006 as Medical Director and held that position for the duration of the clinic’s operation. She is board-certified in Sleep Medicine and Internal Medicine. Under her directorship, Somnatek expanded its diagnostic capacity from four to twelve in-lab monitoring stations and established the research partnership with Wexler University that produced the Protocol 7A longitudinal study.
Dr. Ellison served as supervising physician for the Somnatek Longitudinal Recall Program from 2008 through the study’s conclusion. She authored or co-authored eight peer-reviewed publications during her tenure, including two collaborative abstracts with Dr. Edwin Vale (Wexler University).
Administrative status as of February 2014: Extended administrative leave. Duration and terms are not disclosed in this record. Lena Ortiz — Sleep Technician II
Lena Ortiz joined Somnatek as a Sleep Technician I in 2007 and was promoted to Sleep Technician II in 2010 following completion of advanced polysomnography training. She served as the primary attending technician for the majority of in-lab sleep studies conducted between 2009 and 2013, including all in-lab sessions associated with the Wexler University longitudinal recall study.
Ms. Ortiz held Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) certification through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists. Certification records indicate renewal in October 2014.

Dr. Edwin Vale — Research Affiliate (Wexler University)
Dr. Vale served as Principal Investigator on the Wexler University longitudinal sleep recall study conducted in partnership with Somnatek from 2008 to 2013. He holds an appointment in the Department of Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience at Wexler University. His research interests include environmental encoding in sleep-stage memory and longitudinal consistency in episodic dream recall.
